Raspberry ketone is 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)butan-2-one (CAS 5471-51-2, C10H12O2, molecular weight 164.20), a ketone-phenol traded also as frambinone, rheosmin, oxyphenylon, rasketone and p-hydroxybenzyl acetone. Pure material presents as white needles melting at 82 to 84 C, carrying the sweet berry odour that makes it the primary aroma compound of red raspberry; it occurs alongside in cranberry and blackberry. Because the same molecule serves both the flavour trade and the supplement trade, buyers should be precise about which specification and which origin they are contracting for. Origin is the commercial honesty point on this ingredient and we would rather state it plainly than let a label go wrong. Raspberry fruit yields only about 1 to 4 mg of the ketone per kilogram, and genuinely fruit-extracted material has traded at figures as high as roughly USD 20,000 per kilogram. Essentially all supplement-scale supply, ours included unless you specifically order otherwise, is therefore nature-identical material produced synthetically, typically by a Claisen-Schmidt condensation followed by catalytic hydrogenation. Nature-identical is the same molecule and is entirely proper to sell; what is not proper is describing it on pack as natural or as raspberry-derived. Thovek will quote a natural grade with supporting documentation where a label genuinely requires one, priced accordingly. Tell us the origin you intend to declare and it is written onto the certificate of analysis. The capsule is filled with the crystalline active at 98% minimum assay together with microcrystalline cellulose and a vegetable-sourced flow agent, in size 0 or size 1 two-piece shells. Hypromellose shells keep the finished capsule vegan and vegetarian; bovine gelatin shells are neither, and carry a bovine-origin declaration relevant to halal, kosher and Indian-market positioning. No porcine material is used. The synthetic active introduces no allergens, so the capsule as formulated is free from milk, egg, soy, fish, crustacean, gluten, peanut and tree nut. Bulk crystalline powder is supplied on the same specification for flavour and fragrance compounding, and it classifies into a different chapter from the capsule, which the classification note sets out. Supplement status for isolated raspberry ketone varies by destination market and should be confirmed before contracting; Thovek makes no therapeutic or disease claim on this material.
