Isotonic Sports Drink Powder

This is a carbohydrate-electrolyte drink base, blended and instantised so it goes into cold water without lumping, dosed at 35 g into 500 mL (70 g per litre) to land at 6.5-7 g of carbohydrate per 100 mL. The carbohydrate system is maltodextrin at DE 10-20 (CAS 9050-36-6) with dextrose monohydrate (CAS 5996-10-1) and fructose (CAS 57-48-7). Maltodextrin does the work of carrying energy without driving osmolality up, which is what makes an isotonic build possible at this carbohydrate level; the dextrose and fructose set sweetness and the transporter mix. Reconstituted osmolality is held at 270-330 mOsm/kg water — the isotonic band, close to body fluid. Sodium sits at 20-50 mmol/L (460-1,150 mg/L) from trisodium citrate dihydrate (CAS 6132-04-3) and sodium chloride (CAS 7647-14-5), potassium at 3-5 mmol/L from potassium chloride (CAS 7447-40-7), with magnesium and calcium optional. Energy density is 240-300 kcal per litre. Those parameters are not arbitrary: they are the composition conditions the EU sets for carbohydrate-electrolyte solutions in Commission Regulation (EU) No 432/2012 — 80-350 kcal/L from carbohydrate, at least 75% of that energy from carbohydrates inducing a high glycaemic response, 20-50 mmol/L sodium, and 200-330 mOsm/kg water. The powder is hygroscopic and that governs handling — we ship in foil-laminate with a moisture barrier and recommend filling in a humidity-controlled room, since a damp fill line is the usual cause of caking complaints on this product type. The standard build is vegan and vegetarian, gluten-free on maize or tapioca maltodextrin, and carries no milk, egg, soy, fish, crustacean or tree nut. A whey- or protein-containing recovery variant is a different product with different allergen and tariff consequences and we quote it separately. No WADA prohibited-list substance is added.
