Beta-alanine is 3-aminopropanoic acid, C3H7NO2, molar mass 89.09, the one naturally occurring beta amino acid, and it is the rate-limiting precursor in the body's synthesis of carnosine, the dipeptide beta-alanyl-L-histidine found in skeletal muscle. As a solid it is a white powder to crystal melting at 207 °C with decomposition, and it dissolves readily at 54.5 g per 100 mL of water. Creatine is 2-[carbamimidoyl(methyl)amino]acetic acid, a guanidino compound with the anhydrous formula C4H9N3O2 and molar mass 131.14, CAS 57-00-1. It is traded as the monohydrate, C4H9N3O2 with one water of crystallisation, molar mass 149.15, CAS 6020-87-7, which is the form covered by the USP grade specification. Creatine is far less soluble than its partner at 13.3 g per litre of water at 18 °C, and that difference governs how the blend behaves in a finished drink. The blend ratio is set to the customer's serving design; a 1:1 by weight starting point is the usual reference, and Thovek will pre-blend to any split rather than shipping two drums for the buyer to combine. Three technical points repay attention. Creatine monohydrate reverts to creatinine in the presence of moisture, and faster at low pH, so the blend must be packed behind a moisture barrier and should not be dropped into an acidic ready-to-drink format without stability work behind it. Particle size should be matched across the two inputs or the mix will segregate in transit and in the hopper: the standard creatine grade is 200 mesh, with a micronised grade available where suspension in water is wanted. And beta-alanine is markedly more soluble than creatine, so a clear beverage will hit its creatine ceiling long before its beta-alanine ceiling. On purity, the creatine specification exists mainly to control residues from the sarcosine and cyanamide synthesis route, which is why dicyandiamide, creatinine and dihydrotriazine appear on the certificate of analysis alongside assay. Both components are chemically synthesised rather than extracted, a point worth making to buyers who assume creatine is a meat-derived material: there is no animal, dairy, soy, egg or gluten input anywhere in the chain, so the blend supports vegan and vegetarian claims and carries none of the major allergens. For brands selling into tested sport, third-party banned-substance screening of finished lots can be arranged where the destination market expects it.

Available grades

Beta-alanine food and supplement grade at not less than 99%; creatine monohydrate USP grade in 80 mesh, 200 mesh and micronised. Supplied as a 1:1 standard pre-blend or to any customer ratio, unflavoured, with optional silicon dioxide as an anti-caking aid. Single-component drums of either input are also available if the buyer prefers to blend in house.

Packaging: 25 kg fibre drums with a food-grade polyethylene liner, or 25 kg triple-laminate aluminium foil bags with desiccant; 1 kg and 5 kg foil pouches for trial batches. The moisture barrier is not optional here, since creatine monohydrate converts to creatinine in damp storage. Store below 25 °C at under 60% relative humidity and reseal immediately after sampling.
