Because the actives must remain in solution, the salt forms differ from those used in tablets: thiamine hydrochloride, riboflavin sodium phosphate (riboflavin base itself is only sparingly soluble in water), niacinamide, D-panthenol or sodium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, biotin, folic acid and cyanocobalamin. The B-group vitamins are water-soluble coenzyme precursors involved in energy-yielding metabolism, and a liquid presentation suits buyers whose end users prefer not to swallow tablets. Formats include a sucrose syrup base, a sugar-free base built on sorbitol or maltitol with sucralose, paediatric drops, and 25 to 60 ml single-serve shots.
Batching is carried out in de-aerated or nitrogen-blanketed water for the oxygen-sensitive actives, with pH held in a citrate-buffered range chosen for the vitamin profile. A sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate preservative system is standard; preservative-free monodose sachets and vials are available where the pack format allows. Riboflavin sodium phosphate gives the liquid a characteristic yellow to yellow-green colour, and the B vitamins carry a distinct odour that is masked with natural or nature-identical flavours.
