Children's Chewable Multivitamin Tablets

Thovek manufactures children's chewable multivitamin tablets to customer formulation for paediatric and family supplement ranges. The tablet is designed to be chewed rather than swallowed, so the base does the work: directly compressible mannitol, sorbitol, dextrose or maltitol gives a cool, quick-dissolving mouthfeel, and the tablet is pressed soft enough to break down easily while still surviving handling and blistering. Tablets are usually round or shaped, in the 500 mg to 1 g range, and can be debossed or supplied in two-tone or speckled presentations. Sugar-free bases are available where a no-added-sugar claim is required. Strengths are set for children rather than scaled down from an adult formula. A typical build carries vitamin A, vitamin D3, vitamin C, the B group including B1, B2, B6, B12, niacinamide, folic acid and biotin, with vitamin E and trace minerals such as zinc and iodine, at levels referenced to the recommended dietary allowances for the relevant age band in the destination market. Iron and calcium are offered as options: iron-containing paediatric products need particular attention to taste masking and to the warning statements and child-resistant packaging that many markets require, and calcium adds bulk that has to be planned into tablet weight. Taste masking is the central formulation challenge — B vitamins, zinc and iron all carry off-notes — and is handled through flavour selection, acidulant balance and, where needed, coated or encapsulated raw material grades.
