Calcium + vitamin D3 tablets pair a mineral salt with cholecalciferol in a single compressed dose. The standard base is calcium carbonate IP/BP/USP (CAS 471-34-1, CaCO3, 100.09 g/mol), a fine white powder carrying approximately 40 % elemental calcium, so 1,250 mg of the salt supplies 500 mg of elemental calcium. Calcium citrate is offered where a citrate salt is specified — anhydrous (CAS 813-94-5, 24.1 % elemental calcium) or tetrahydrate (CAS 5785-44-4, 21.1 %) — although its lower elemental load raises tablet weight for the same dose. Vitamin D3 is introduced as spray-dried cholecalciferol, typically 100,000 IU per gram, which handles far better in a dry blend than the resin used for liquid formats. Calcium is a structural constituent of bone and teeth, and vitamin D3 has an established role in calcium and phosphorus absorption; the two are formulated together for that reason.
Strengths most often specified are 500 mg elemental calcium with 250 IU D3, 600 mg with 400 IU, and 500 mg with 1,000 IU. Because the mineral load is high, a 500 mg elemental dose usually lands at a 1,300–1,700 mg tablet, produced by direct compression or wet granulation depending on the calcium grade and the excipient set. Tablets can be supplied uncoated, HPMC film-coated in a vegetarian non-gelatin system, or sugar-coated; chewable versions with orange, mint or vanilla flavour are made where swallowability drives the brief. Co-actives are added on request — magnesium, zinc, vitamin K2-7, vitamin B12 or soy isoflavones — and shape, scoring, debossing and coat colour are matched to the buyer's artwork.
Batch release covers calcium assay by complexometric titration or ICP, vitamin D3 by HPLC, disintegration, friability, hardness and uniformity of weight, plus heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury are routinely reported, as mineral-derived tablets carry the greatest exposure to them) and microbiological limits. Documentation supplied with each shipment includes the batch certificate of analysis, MSDS, allergen and GMO statements, halal, kosher and vegetarian certificates on request, GMP/ISO 22000/HACCP certificates, stability data and FSSAI export paperwork, with a Certificate of Free Sale arranged where required. The finished tablet classifies under ITC-HS 2106 90 99; a version registered as a medicinal product in the destination market may instead fall to heading 3004.
