Coral Calcium

Coral calcium is not a synthesised salt but a milled natural mineral. It is produced from fossilised coral deposits - above-ground limestone that was once part of a reef - which are washed, dried and ground rather than chemically reconstituted, precisely so that living reef is not harvested. The resulting powder is predominantly calcium carbonate, largely as aragonite and calcite, carrying the magnesium and trace mineral profile that was laid down with the original skeletal material. That naturally occurring mineral spectrum is the whole commercial premise of the ingredient and the reason brands specify it in preference to a synthetic carbonate. Because it is a natural deposit rather than a chemically defined compound, coral calcium is bought against a lot specification, not a pharmacopoeia monograph. Elemental calcium is confirmed per lot and cannot exceed the 40.0% ceiling of pure calcium carbonate; the actual figure is lower because of the magnesium and trace mineral fraction, so Thovek contracts on an agreed stated minimum. Deposits formed in a marine environment, so heavy metal screening is not optional here: every lot is tested for lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic against the buyer's destination-market limits, alongside full microbiology. Certificates of Analysis, MSDS, origin documentation and, where the deposit source requires it, the relevant harvest and non-CITES declarations accompany each shipment. Two commercial points deserve flagging. First, classification: milled coral is expressly covered by HS heading 0508 and is not a Chapter 28 chemical, which matters at the border. Second, label copy: coral calcium marketing has attracted regulatory attention in several markets over unsupported claims, so buyers should keep finished-product copy to compositional and recognised nutrient-function statements.
