Cissus quadrangularis L. (Vitaceae) is a succulent, four-angled climbing vine of India and Africa, known in trade as hadjod, veldt grape or adamant creeper, with Cissus quadrangula L. and Vitis quadrangularis among its botanical synonyms. The aerial stem is the part used. Thovek's standard extract is assayed gravimetrically at not less than 2.5% ketosterones (3-keto steroids), with 5%, 10% and 20% grades and native 10:1 and 20:1 ratio extracts available for formulators who prefer a whole-extract profile. Beyond the marker compound, the stem naturally carries calcium, needle-shaped calcium oxalate raphides, ascorbic acid, carotene, beta-sitosterol and triterpenoids including the onocer-7-ene diols. The calcium leg of the blend is a defined mineral salt rather than a shell or bone concentrate, and that distinction drives the allergen and diet declaration. The standard build uses calcium citrate tetrahydrate (CAS 5785-44-4, about 21% elemental calcium), chosen because its dissolution is not dependent on gastric acidity; calcium carbonate (CAS 471-34-1, about 40% elemental calcium) is offered where cost per milligram of calcium drives the formula and the higher elemental load suits the capsule volume. Both are limestone or mineral-derived — never oyster shell, coral or bone meal — so the finished capsule carries no mollusc, crustacean or bovine calcium source. Vitamin D3, vitamin K2-MK7, magnesium and boron can be built in on request; note that cholecalciferol from lanolin is vegetarian but not vegan, while lichen-derived D3 is vegan, and the choice changes the pack declaration. Supply is as a finished two-piece capsule in size 0 or 00 with a 500-750 mg fill, HPMC shell as standard so the article is vegan end to end, or bovine gelatin where the destination market prefers it. Excipients are microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide and vegetable-source magnesium stearate, with stearate-free and clean-label builds available. Each batch is checked for weight variation, disintegration and content uniformity to IP or USP method and ships with assay, heavy metal, pesticide and microbiological data alongside allergen, GMO and vegan declarations. Calcium holds an authorised EU nutrient function claim for the maintenance of normal bones under Commission Regulation (EU) No 432/2012, subject to the source-of-calcium threshold; claim wording for the Cissus component and for the finished pack is the brand's responsibility in its market of sale.
