A plant ceramide supplement is, in chemical fact, a glucosylceramide preparation. Glucosylceramide is a glycosphingolipid: a sphingoid base carrying an amide-linked fatty acid, with a single β-D-glucose head group. In rice the dominant sphingoid base is 4,8-sphingadienine, written d18:2(4E,8Z), paired with saturated fatty acids from C18 to C26, and the C24 and C26 species are the ones the published work isolates as the active fraction on transepidermal water loss. What actually ships is a standardised extract, never a pure molecule, so the number that governs the contract is the glucosylceramide assay and the method behind it. Trade listings often quote CAS 100403-19-8; that number designates a ceramide mixture rather than one defined compound, so purchase specifications should be written on assay and method, not on a CAS number. Thovek's reference grade is drawn from Oryza sativa L. bran and germ, including the gum fraction recovered during rice bran oil refining, extracted with ethanol or food-grade solvent, purified and dried onto a carrier. Glucosylceramide grades run at 1, 3, 5, 10 and 30 per cent by HPLC with evaporative light-scattering detection. Konjac and wheat grades are available as separate materials: konjac flour carries the highest native glucosylceramide of the common plant sources at roughly 0.15 to 0.20 per cent, and published konjac intakes sit at 0.6, 1.2 and 1.8 mg glucosylceramide per day, while wheat-derived work generally uses 30 to 60 mg per day and a rice clinical build has used a 40 mg once-daily capsule. Rice glucosylceramide is the plant ceramide with food-grade standing in Japan, which is where most of the category's regulatory history sits. Source choice is an allergen decision before it is a cost decision. The rice grade is wheat-free and gluten-free and can be tested to under 20 ppm gluten; the konjac grade is likewise clear of the major cereal allergens. The wheat grade must be declared as wheat and gluten, is unsuitable for coeliac buyers, and mis-declaring it is a recall event, so Thovek will not ship a wheat-sourced lot against a gluten-free specification. All three sources are plant-derived, vegan and vegetarian, with no bovine, porcine or marine input, and the two-piece HPMC shell preserves the vegan claim where a bovine gelatin shell would not. Available grades

Rice bran and germ glucosylceramide at 1%, 3%, 5%, 10% and 30% by HPLC-ELSD, with the 40 mg once-daily capsule as the reference build. Konjac tuber glucosylceramide as a separate grade for 0.6–1.8 mg per day builds, and wheat-derived glucosylceramide for 30–60 mg per day builds, the latter only against a written acceptance of the wheat and gluten declaration. Shells in vegan HPMC or bovine gelatin, in sizes 0, 1 and 2. Optional co-actives include hyaluronic acid, biotin, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc and marigold-derived lutein. Excipients on request in microcrystalline cellulose, rice flour or maltodextrin. Halal, kosher, vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free and BSE/TSE declarations available where the shell and source support them.

Packaging: Alu-alu blister of 10, 15 or 30 capsules in printed mono-cartons, or induction-sealed HDPE jars of 30, 60, 90 or 120 with a desiccant canister. The extract is mildly hygroscopic, so light-proof foil or opaque jars are standard and band-sealing of the capsule is offered as an added moisture barrier. Bulk capsules ship in double food-grade LDPE liners inside HDPE drums; bulk extract powder ships in 1, 5 or 25 kg aluminium foil bags inside fibre drums. Cartons are shrink-wrapped into 5-ply export corrugated shippers, strapped and palletised on heat-treated pallets, with batch number, manufacturing date and expiry marked at every packing level.
