Specifications

Product type and formatFinished two-piece hard capsule in measured dose form, supplied as bulk capsules for the buyer's own bottling or as a bottled and labelled private-label SKU
Botanical identityGokshura and tribulus are one species: Tribulus terrestris L., Zygophyllaceae. This blend combines two plant parts, not two plants — a point most datasheets omit
House reference formulaSize 0 HPMC shell, nominal 0.67 mL, 500 mg fill: 350 mg fruit extract at 40% total saponins (gravimetric) plus 150 mg aerial-part extract with protodioscin by HPLC
Gokshura fractionDried ripe fruit, the part specified as Gokshura in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India. Total saponins 20%, 40%, 60% or 90% w/w, gravimetric butanol-soluble fraction
Tribulus fraction and markersAerial parts of a high-protodioscin chemotype. Protodioscin CAS 55056-80-9, C51H84O22, MW 1049.20; sapogenin diosgenin CAS 512-04-9, MW 414.62, as secondary marker
Chemotype and method cautionDinchev et al. 2008 found Indian material effectively free of protodioscin; a 40% total-saponin extract is not a 40% protodioscin extract. Surveys report 0.17-6.49%
Release assayAssayed on the finished capsule, not only on the inputs: total saponins and, where the chemotype supports it, protodioscin per unit, with fill weight and weight variation
Capsule shell and excipientsVegan HPMC standard; bovine or porcine gelatin declared if ordered. Titanium dioxide free, E171 having lost EU food-additive status on 7 Aug 2022. Palm, not tallow, stearate
Appearance and disintegrationOpaque capsule with a light to dark brown free-flowing fill and a characteristic bitter note. Disintegration NMT 30 minutes per USP <2040>; tighter limits to order
Heavy metals and microbiologyPb NMT 3 ppm, As NMT 1 ppm, Cd NMT 1 ppm, Hg NMT 0.1 ppm by ICP-MS. TPC NMT 10,000 cfu/g, yeast and mould NMT 500 cfu/g, Salmonella and E. coli absent in 10 g
Adulterant and sports-channel screeningLC-MS/MS screen for undeclared PDE-5 inhibitors on every lot, plus the documentation package third-party banned-substance testing programmes require, on request
Allergen and diet statusVegan with the HPMC shell; vegetarian, and bovine or porcine, with gelatin. No milk, egg, soy, fish, crustacean, gluten, sesame, mustard or nut input. Non-GMO
Shelf life and storage24 months from manufacture in sealed original packing below 25 C, dry and away from direct light. Reseal jars promptly and keep desiccant in place after part use
HS codeIndia ITC-HS 2106 90 99, food preparations not elsewhere specified or included. Final classification rests with the importing customs authority
The first thing to say about this product is the thing most datasheets leave out: gokshura and tribulus are not two plants. Both names point at Tribulus terrestris L., family Zygophyllaceae. Gokshura is the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India name for the dried ripe fruit, and it is the fruit that Indian collection and cultivation in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh supplies; tribulus, as the sports-nutrition trade uses the word, generally means the aerial parts of Bulgarian or Mediterranean material selected for protodioscin. A capsule that lists both is therefore a two-plant-part blend of one species, and Thovek builds it that way on purpose rather than pretending to a botanical variety that does not exist. The gokshura fraction is a fruit extract standardised on total saponins; the tribulus fraction is an aerial-part extract from a chemotype that genuinely supports a protodioscin figure. The house reference build is a size 0 shell at a 500 mg fill, 350 mg of fruit extract at 40% total saponins with 150 mg of aerial-part extract carrying a declared protodioscin content, rebuilt to a buyer's brief on ratio, strength and count. The chemistry behind that split is where money is won and lost. Protodioscin is a furostanol saponin, CAS 55056-80-9, C51H84O22, molecular weight 1049.20, with the sapogenin diosgenin, CAS 512-04-9, C27H42O3, molecular weight 414.62, quoted as a secondary marker. Protodioscin content is chemotype- and plant-part-dependent and is not a grade that can simply be ordered: work published in Phytochemistry by Dinchev and co-workers in 2008, comparing material from different regions, found Indian and Vietnamese samples effectively free of protodioscin and lacking prototribestin and tribestin altogether, while market surveys of finished tribulus products have reported protodioscin anywhere from 0.17% to 6.49%. Two consequences follow. A 40% total-saponin extract is not a 40% protodioscin extract, and anyone offering the second at the price of the first is either mis-assaying or spiking. And gravimetry cannot substitute for HPLC here, because a gravimetric result weighs a butanol-soluble fraction and cannot resolve saponin class, whereas HPLC names the molecule. We therefore report total saponins gravimetrically on the fruit fraction, quote protodioscin by HPLC only against material whose chemotype supports it, and release both figures on the finished capsule rather than on the input extract. The fill is plant material throughout, so the commercially decisive origin question is again the shell. With the standard hypromellose capsule the product is vegan; with a gelatin shell it is vegetarian at best and carries bovine or porcine origin, which we state on the specification rather than leaving to the packing list. No milk, egg, soy, fish, crustacean, mollusc, peanut, tree nut, sesame, mustard, celery or lupin material and no gluten-bearing cereal enters the process, the material is non-GMO, and magnesium stearate where used is palm-derived rather than tallow-derived. Shells are supplied titanium dioxide free, E171 having lost its EU food-additive authorisation on 7 August 2022. Because this product sells into the men's and sports channels we screen every lot by LC-MS/MS for undeclared synthetic PDE-5 inhibitors — sildenafil, tadalafil and their analogues are the documented adulterants of the category — and we supply the documentation package that third-party banned-substance testing programmes require, without implying certification we do not hold. One logistics note that concerns raw herb rather than capsules: Tribulus terrestris is a declared noxious weed, puncturevine, in parts of the United States and Australia, so viable seed and unprocessed herb can be held at those borders while extract and finished capsules are unaffected. Thovek makes no therapeutic or disease claim for this product; claim wording and substantiation are the buyer's responsibility, botanical health claims remain on hold in the EU under Regulation 1924/2006, and US structure-function claims require the statutory disclaimer and notification to FDA within thirty days of first marketing.
