Shatavari is the root of Asparagus racemosus Willd. (Asparagaceae), a climbing perennial of the Indian subcontinent whose tuberous roots are lifted after two to three seasons, then washed, peeled, dried and milled. This listing is the finished tonic rather than the bulk raw material: a packed powder or a syrup, built to the buyer's serving design and label. It sits alongside, not in place of, Thovek's bulk standardised shatavari extract, which is sold by the drum on assay and is a different product with a different tariff line. The powder build can be plain milled churna, or churna carried up to a target saponin figure with a standardised extract blended back in; the syrup build is an aqueous or hydro-alcoholic root extract in a sugar, sorbitol or maltitol base, with sugar-free versions available on request. Standardisation is on the total steroidal saponins of the shatavarin series, and the method has to be named or the number means nothing: gravimetry, UV-Vis with vanillin and sulphuric acid at 540 nm, and HPLC against a shatavarin reference do not return the same answer for the same material, and a bare percentage is not comparable between suppliers. Shatavarin IV is the marker usually named on an HPLC specification — CAS 84633-34-1, C45H74O17, 887.1 g/mol — while the native matrix also carries mucilage, sterols and flavonoids that a total-saponin figure does not describe. Identity is confirmed by TLC or HPTLC against authenticated reference material, which matters because other Asparagus species circulate under overlapping vernacular names in the raw-material trade. The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India carries a Shatavari root monograph and lots can be released against it where a buyer asks for that basis. Two commercial points are worth stating plainly. The first is allergens. The standard export build is milk-free, but the traditional kalpa-style presentation of shatavari is taken with milk and some domestic versions are built on milk solids and sugar — if a buyer wants a dairy base, MILK becomes a declarable allergen under Reg. (EU) No 1169/2011 Annex II and its US equivalent, and the specification has to say so before the first batch rather than after. As supplied by default the material has no milk, egg, fish, crustacean, soy, gluten, peanut or tree-nut input, is vegan and vegetarian, and uses no bovine, porcine or marine material. The second is claims: no health claim for Asparagus racemosus appears as authorised in the EU register of nutrition and health claims, so the tonic is offered on its composition and standardisation alone. Thovek makes no therapeutic or disease representation; permitted label wording is a matter for the buyer's regulatory team in the destination market. Powder is hygroscopic and shipped in heat-sealed liners; syrup is filled under FSSAI licence, and every lot carries the batch certificate of analysis with heavy-metal, pesticide, aflatoxin and microbiological data.
