Cranberry + D-Mannose Capsules

Cranberry + D-Mannose Capsules

Two-actives capsule · cranberry PACs by DMAC with D-mannose

Cranberry extract standardised on proanthocyanidins by DMAC (AOAC 2019.06) blended with D-mannose in one capsule. Vegan HPMC shell, peanut-free cranberry verified per lot, private label to order.

Specifications

CompositionTwo actives in one capsule: Vaccinium macrocarpon fruit extract standardised on proanthocyanidins, plus D-mannose. Ratio set by the buyer's serving design.
Cranberry identityVaccinium macrocarpon Aiton (Ericaceae), the American cranberry. Not V. oxycoccos or V. vitis-idaea; those are different species and are not substituted.
Cranberry originWhole fruit or juice press residue from North America (Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Quebec, British Columbia) and Chile; not an Indian crop. Origin chain documented.
PAC standardisationProanthocyanidins by DMAC, AOAC Official Method 2019.06. The COA names the calibration standard — procyanidin A2 and cranberry c-PAC give different figures.
Serving arithmetic36 mg PAC per daily serving is the trade reference: 240 mg of a 15 per cent DMAC extract, or 144 mg of a 25 per cent extract. Stated per formulation.
A-type identityCranberry PACs are predominantly A-type interflavan linked; A-type character confirmed by MALDI-TOF MS along the lines of AOAC First Action Method 2019.05.
Method cautionFolin and generic UV polyphenol figures are not PAC values and read much higher. A bare percentage without a named method and standard is not comparable.
D-mannose identityD-mannose, CAS 3458-28-4, C6H12O6, 180.16 g/mol; an aldohexose and the C-2 epimer of D-glucose. White crystalline powder, freely soluble in water.
Adulteration controlGrape seed (B-type) and peanut skin (A-type, a peanut allergen) are documented PAC adulterants. Every cranberry lot is profiled and declared peanut-free.
Capsule shellHPMC (vegan) as standard; bovine or fish gelatin on request. Shell material and its animal origin are declared on the finished-product specification.
Allergen and diet statusVegan and vegetarian on the HPMC shell. Free of the FDA 9 and EU 14 allergens; peanut-free status verified by lot profiling, not merely attested.
Regulatory positionUS GRAS notice GRN 873 covers cranberry extract powder. An EU Art. 14(1)(a) claim for a cranberry plus D-mannose supplement was assessed and not authorised.
Claim disciplineNo therapeutic representation is made. EU Art. 13(1) cranberry urinary claims are recorded non-authorised; label wording is the buyer's responsibility.
Shelf life, storage24 months unopened below 25 °C at under 60 per cent RH. Both actives are hygroscopic — blister or desiccated bottle.

This is a two-actives capsule rather than a single ingredient, and the two actives are chemically unrelated. One is a standardised fruit extract of the American cranberry, Vaccinium macrocarpon Aiton (Ericaceae), dosed on its proanthocyanidin assay and supplied as a deep red, markedly hygroscopic powder. The other is D-mannose, a simple sugar: an aldohexose of CAS 3458-28-4, C6H12O6, 180.16 g/mol, and the C-2 epimer of D-glucose, supplied as a white, freely water-soluble crystalline powder. D-mannose is normally the bulk of the fill and therefore sets the capsule size, while the cranberry extract is the component that carries the specification risk. The standard shell is HPMC, which keeps the finished capsule vegan; bovine or fish gelatin is available on request, with the shell material and its animal origin stated on the finished-product specification rather than left to the buyer to infer. The cranberry side is written tightly because this is where specifications routinely go wrong. Proanthocyanidins are reported by the DMAC colorimetric assay under AOAC Official Method 2019.06, and the certificate names the calibration standard, because procyanidin A2 and cranberry c-PAC do not return the same figure for the same extract. Folin and generic UV polyphenol numbers are not PAC values and read far higher; a bare percentage with no named method and no named standard is not comparable between suppliers and should not be accepted at purchase. The trade formulates to 36 mg of PAC per daily serving, which works out at 240 mg of a 15 per cent DMAC extract or 144 mg of a 25 per cent extract. A-type interflavan character is confirmed by MALDI-TOF MS along the lines of AOAC First Action Method 2019.05. Grape seed, which is B-type, and peanut skin, which is A-type and a peanut allergen, are both documented PAC adulterants, so every cranberry lot is profiled and peanut-free status is verified rather than merely attested — an important point given that published surveys have found a substantial share of commercial cranberry extracts and finished supplements differing from authentic fruit. On regulation, buyers should plan artwork before they plan volumes. US GRAS notice GRN 873 covers cranberry extract powder. In the EU, Article 13(1) claims that cranberry juice supports the urinary system are recorded in the register of nutrition and health claims as non-authorised, and an Article 14(1)(a) disease-risk-reduction claim submitted for a food supplement containing cranberry extract and D-mannose was assessed and not authorised either. Thovek therefore describes this product by composition and assay only and makes no therapeutic or disease representation of any kind; what may lawfully appear on a label is a matter for the buyer's regulatory team in the destination market, and the novel-food or permitted-ingredient status of D-mannose should be confirmed there before launch. No third-party branded cranberry ingredient is supplied, referenced or implied — the material is specified on its own DMAC figure. Both actives are hygroscopic, so capsules are blistered or bottled with desiccant, and each shipment carries the batch certificate of analysis, allergen and diet declarations, heavy-metal, pesticide and microbiological data, with halal, kosher and organic certification where the supply chain supports it.

Available grades

Cranberry extract at 15 per cent or 25 per cent PAC by DMAC as the volume grades, with roughly 10 to 60 per cent available to order; carrier-free grades for capsule work and maltodextrin or gum acacia carried grades where a beverage reformat is planned. D-mannose supplied to food-grade specification, typical assay 98 per cent minimum on the anhydrous basis, with the COA figure stated per lot. Capsule sizes 0 and 00; shell in HPMC, bovine gelatin or fish gelatin. Non-GMO, kosher, halal and NPOP / NOP / EU-organic lots where the origin certification chain supports it. Manufactured under FSSAI licence with GMP, ISO 22000 and HACCP documentation.

Packaging: Alu-PVC or Alu-Alu blisters of 10 or 15 capsules in printed cartons with leaflet, or 30 / 60 / 90-count HDPE bottles with induction seal and silica gel desiccant; Alu-Alu is recommended for humid destinations because both actives are hygroscopic. Bulk capsules for downstream packing are supplied 10–25 kg net in double food-grade LDPE liners inside fibre or HDPE drums, heat-sealed with desiccant and nitrogen-flushed on request. Palletised and shrink-wrapped for FCL or LCL export. Store below 25 °C at under 60 per cent RH, out of direct light, and reclose promptly after part use.
