Pea & Rice Protein Blend

Pea & Rice Protein Blend

Pisum sativum + Oryza sativa · 70:30, min 80% protein

Blend of yellow pea protein isolate and brown rice protein at a standard 70:30 ratio, minimum 80% protein. Pea lysine and rice methionine offset each other in one vegan, gluten-free powder.

Thovek supplies a co-blended plant protein built from yellow pea (Pisum sativum L.) protein isolate and brown rice (Oryza sativa L.) protein, dry-blended or co-spray-dried to a standard 70:30 pea-to-rice ratio and a minimum 80% protein as is. The two raws are not interchangeable commodities: published characterisation of commercial wet-extracted pea isolates puts them at around 80% protein with roughly 4-5% ash, while brown rice protein grades analyse at about 77% (concentrate) to 79% (isolate) total amino acids, with both rice grades carrying close to 36% essential and 18% branched-chain amino acids. Blending them under one specification gives the buyer a single lot number and a single COA instead of two raws to balance in-house. The reason for blending is amino acid arithmetic. Pea protein is rich in lysine and limited in methionine; rice protein is the mirror image, carrying more methionine and cysteine but less lysine. In a published crossover trial the pea-rice blend analysed at 81.30 g protein, 26.43 g essential amino acids and 5.98 g leucine per 100 g, against 79.10 g, 26.27 g and 5.75 g for pea isolate alone, and the blend carried roughly 1.5 times the methionine of pea alone (1.19 g versus 0.80 g per 100 g). The same authors recorded that the blend's methionine still sat below the WHO/FAO/UNU reference requirement, so formulators targeting a full reference pattern should model the finished matrix rather than assume the ratio closes the gap on its own. Whey concentrate measured in the same work ran higher on essential amino acids (35.48 g) and leucine (8.27 g) per 100 g. The powder is light beige, disperses in water and plant milks as a suspension rather than a clear solution, and is supplied at 80 mesh for bar and powder work or agglomerated where shaker dispersibility matters. It is vegan and vegetarian, with no milk, egg, fish, crustacean, soy, sesame or nut input, and both peas and rice are naturally gluten-free; pea is a legume, which some buyers track separately from peanut in their allergen matrices. Ratio, protein floor, mesh, flavour masking, organic certification and non-GMO documentation are all fixed at order stage, with heavy metal and microbiological data issued per lot.
