Triphala Extract

Triphala is the three-fruit Ayurvedic composition of amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica, syn. Emblica officinalis), bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) and haritaki (Terminalia chebula). Thovek supplies it as a dried extract of the deseeded fruit pulp rather than a milled churna: the fruit is extracted in water or aqueous ethanol, concentrated and spray dried, which concentrates the tannin fraction and gives a free-flowing powder that behaves predictably in tablets and capsules. The house grade is standardised to not less than 40% total tannins by gravimetry, with 20%, 30% and 45% grades and gallic-acid-assayed HPLC grades made to order. The characterising chemistry is polyphenolic — gallic acid, chebulinic acid, chebulagic acid, ellagic acid and corilagin — and it is these hydrolysable tannins that the tannin assay measures. Buyers should be explicit about which number they are buying against: gravimetric or titrimetric total tannins and an HPLC gallic acid figure are different measurements and are not interchangeable on a label. We will run either, and will match a competitor's method if you are requalifying an existing SKU. Full-spectrum native concentrates at 4:1 and 10:1 are also available where a formulator wants the whole fruit profile rather than a marker-driven spec. Blending ratio matters commercially. The Ayurvedic Formulary of India specifies equal parts 1:1:1 by weight and that is the default we ship; the classical Sharangadhara proportion of 1 part haritaki : 2 parts bibhitaki : 4 parts amalaki is available on request and should be named on the purchase order, because the two ratios give measurably different tannin and vitamin C profiles. Material is plant-derived throughout with no animal processing aid, no milk or ghee shodhana step, and no declarable allergens. Organic (NPOP / NOP / EU) certified lots are available alongside conventional.
