Thovek supplies Passiflora incarnata dry extract produced from the dried aerial parts — leaf, stem, tendril and flower harvested at flowering — and not from the flower alone, since the aerial part (herba) is the plant part recognised in the European pharmacopoeial monograph for this material. The characteristic constituents are C-glycosyl flavones: vitexin (apigenin-8-C-glucoside) and its 6-C isomer isovitexin, alongside orientin, isoorientin, schaftoside and isoschaftoside. Our standard commercial grade assays 4.0% total flavones calculated as vitexin by HPLC. A 1.5–2.0% total-flavonoid grade determined spectrophotometrically and expressed as vitexin is available for buyers working to the pharmacopoeial figure for the herb and its ethanolic extracts, and plain 10:1 and 20:1 native extracts are made for formulators who specify by ratio rather than by marker. Species identity is the real quality risk in this trade. Passiflora edulis and several other Passiflora species are cheaper, visually similar once dried and cut, and do not carry the same flavone profile, so every incoming lot of raw herb is confirmed by HPTLC and HPLC fingerprint against a P. incarnata reference before it enters the extractor. Extraction uses water or food-grade ethanol/water; no class 1 solvents are involved and residual solvents are held within ICH Q3C class 3 limits. Assay is adjusted with maize or tapioca maltodextrin where a fixed percentage is contracted, and a carrier-free native extract can be supplied where the buyer prefers to dilute in-house. The trace beta-carboline alkaloids native to the herb (harman, harmine, harmaline) are monitored and reported on request, because a few destination markets ask for a declared ceiling on them.
