Holy basil and tulsi are two names for the same plant, so this record covers what the trade actually means by a holy basil plus tulsi blend: a multi-type tulsi ingredient, not two different botanicals. It combines the two cultivated morphotypes of Ocimum tenuiflorum L. (accepted name; Ocimum sanctum L. is a synonym) — Rama, the broad bright-green leaf, and Krishna, the purplish-green leaf — with Vana tulsi, which is a genuinely separate species, Ocimum gratissimum L. Blending the three evens out the varietal and seasonal swing in triterpene and volatile-oil content that a single-type lot carries, and gives a fuller aromatic profile than Rama leaf alone. This is a distinct SKU from our single-type Ocimum sanctum extract: the blend ratio is fixed to an agreed recipe and held constant lot to lot, so a buyer reformulating from one to the other should re-qualify. Two trade forms are offered. The leaf-powder blend is shade-dried and milled from the three types, typically to 80 mesh, and is unextracted plant material. The extract blend is a hydro-alcoholic dry extract, supplied as 4:1, 10:1 and 20:1 native concentrates or standardised on total triterpene acids — ursolic plus oleanolic — at 2.5% or 3.0% by HPLC. Eugenol-standardised grades to 8% by GC are made where a formulator is working around the aromatic fraction. USP's Holy Basil Leaf monograph defines the raw article as the dried leaf of Ocimum tenuiflorum L. containing not less than 0.5% triterpenes calculated as the sum of oleanolic and ursolic acid on the dried basis; standardised extracts sit well above that floor. Rosmarinic acid by HPLC and eugenol by GC are reported on request, and identity is confirmed by HPTLC fingerprint against the reference blend.
