Garcinia cambogia extract (HCA 60%)

Thovek supplies Garcinia cambogia extract standardised to 60% hydroxycitric acid (HCA), produced from the sun-dried fruit rind of Garcinia gummi-gutta (L.) N.Robson — the Malabar tamarind, known as kudampuli in Kerala, where most of India's commercial crop is collected. Garcinia cambogia Desr. is a botanical synonym of the same species and remains the name the supplement trade uses. The dried rind carries roughly 10-30% HCA; aqueous extraction and concentration lift that to the 60% assayed by HPLC on every lot. (-)-Hydroxycitric acid is a citric acid derivative, C6H8O8, MW 208.12, CAS 6205-14-7. Two commercial forms exist and they behave very differently in a formulation. The potassium-calcium double salt is readily water soluble and is the grade to specify for effervescent tablets, stick packs and ready-to-mix powders. Free-acid and lactone-rich grades, and the 95% calcium salt, are only sparingly soluble in water and suit two-piece capsules and tablet cores.
