Bacopa monnieri Extract is a standardised botanical extract produced from the dried whole herb of Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst., the plant listed as Brahmi in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, Part I, Volume II, and as Bacopa in the USP monograph. The characteristic constituents are dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins - bacoside A3, bacopaside I, bacopaside II, the jujubogenin isomer of bacopasaponin C and bacopasaponin C - which are reported collectively as total bacosides. Thovek supplies the extract at 20%, 40% and 50% total bacosides by UV, and at USP-method HPLC assays where the buyer's specification calls for the chromatographic figure. UV and HPLC results are not interchangeable and are typically several-fold apart on the same material, so the method must be fixed on the purchase specification before the first shipment. Botanical identity is the commercial risk in this ingredient. Centella asiatica (Mandukaparni, gotu kola) is also traded as "Brahmi" in parts of India and is documented as the most common substitute for Bacopa, a problem covered by the Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program bulletin on Bacopa. Every lot Thovek ships is identified against the herb before extraction and confirmed by HPLC fingerprint against a bacoside reference, with HPTLC and microscopic identity available on request. The extract is a plant material processed with water and ethanol only: it is vegan and vegetarian, and no milk, egg, soy, fish, crustacean, peanut, tree nut, sesame, wheat or gluten-bearing material is used at any stage.
