Probiotic Sachet (Infant) is a finished, retail-ready unit-dose format rather than a bulk culture concentrate. Each stick sachet carries a weighed blend of freeze-dried live cultures on a low-moisture carrier, so a caregiver disperses one whole sachet into expressed milk, formula or water without measuring. The default strain set is drawn from organisms carried on FSSAI Schedule VII that have documented use in the infant age group: Limosilactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938, Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis and Bifidobacterium breve M-16V (BCCM/LMG 23729). Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103) and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB-12 (DSM 15954) are available as substitutions or additions. Bifidobacterium is the genus characteristically abundant in the gut microbiota of breast-fed infants, which is why bifidobacterial strains dominate this format rather than the adult-type blends used in general-purpose sachets. Note that the older names Lactobacillus reuteri and Lactobacillus rhamnosus were reassigned to Limosilactobacillus and Lacticaseibacillus in the 2020 Lactobacillaceae revision; both nomenclatures appear on legacy buyer specifications and refer to the same strains. The commercial figure that matters is the count at expiry, not at blending. Cultures are dosed with a manufacturing overage so the declared 1x10^9 CFU per sachet holds through the stated shelf life, and the label count is the end-of-shelf-life figure. Viable counts are reported by ISO 19344 | IDF 232 flow cytometry (active fluorescent units) and cross-checked by colony count on selective media -- ISO 29981 for bifidobacteria, ISO 20128 for the L. acidophilus group. Strain identity is confirmed genotypically to strain level against the deposit held in an international culture collection; a genus-and-species result alone is not sufficient for a strain-specific label claim. Blend water activity is held at or below 0.15 and the powder is filled into aluminium-laminate stick packs, because moisture ingress through a marginal barrier film is the usual cause of a sachet failing its count at eighteen months. Microbiological release mirrors the criteria applied to dried infant formulae for infants under six months: Cronobacter spp. and Enterobacteriaceae absent in 10 g, Salmonella absent in 25 g. Two declarations govern whether a lot is usable to a given buyer. First, allergens: several widely traded probiotic strains are fermented on dairy-based media, and galacto-oligosaccharide prebiotic, if specified, is manufactured enzymatically from lactose -- both routes make the finished sachet milk-derived and non-vegan. A dairy-free fermentation medium with a maize or rice maltodextrin carrier and chicory-derived fructo-oligosaccharide gives a vegan, gluten-free, soy-free sachet, and we confirm which build a lot represents on the certificate of analysis. Second, regulatory positioning: in India, probiotic organisms must appear on FSSAI Schedule VII or carry Food Authority approval, the label must declare strain designations, viable count, storage conditions and the probable count at end of shelf life, and no disease prevention, treatment or cure claim is permitted. Products aimed at children up to two years also engage the Infant Milk Substitutes, Feeding Bottles and Infant Foods Act, 1992, which restricts promotion, and depending on positioning may fall under the Food Safety and Standards (Foods for Infant Nutrition) Regulations, 2020 rather than the nutraceutical regulations. Destination-market rules for infant products differ sharply from India's, so artwork and claim sets are agreed per market before a print run.

Available grades

Supplied as a private-label or contract-manufactured finished sachet, configured to the buyer brief. Options cover strain set (single strain, two-strain or multi-strain), declared CFU per sachet, fill weight, carrier system (maize maltodextrin, rice maltodextrin or prebiotic-loaded), and synbiotic build with FOS or GOS. Two allergen builds are offered: a dairy-free vegan build on non-dairy fermentation media with a maize or rice carrier, and a conventional build where dairy-media strains or GOS prebiotic are specified and milk is declared. Unflavoured is standard for the infant format. Cold-chain and ambient-stable specifications are quoted separately, as they carry different overage and shelf-life commitments.

Packaging: Individually sealed aluminium-laminate stick sachets, nitrogen-flushed, with a controlled water-vapour transmission rate barrier film. Standard retail cartons of 10, 14 or 30 sachets; bulk-pack option of 500 or 1,000 loose sachets in a lined polyethylene bag inside a fibreboard shipper. Shipper cartons palletised and stretch-wrapped. Ambient shipment at 25 C or below is standard; insulated packing with gel packs or full 2 to 8 C reefer cold chain available on request and recommended for long ocean transits through the tropics.
