Evening primrose oil is the fixed oil from the small seed of Oenothera biennis L. Its commercial value rests on gamma-linolenic acid (GLA, C18:3 n-6), an omega-6 fatty acid that occurs in only a handful of plant seed oils; the balance of the profile is dominated by linoleic acid at 65–85%, with oleic acid at 5–12%, palmitic at 4–10% and stearic at 1–4%. Thovek standardises to a minimum 9.0% GLA, with 10% available where a formulator wants headroom on label overage; independent surveys of encapsulated market product have found GLA between roughly 7% and 10%, so a contractually guaranteed floor with a lot-specific GC chromatogram is worth insisting on rather than accepting a nominal figure. The practical formulation arithmetic is straightforward. At 10% GLA, a 500 mg fill delivers 50 mg GLA and a 1,000 mg fill delivers 100 mg; at the 9% floor those become 45 mg and 90 mg. Because evening primrose carries roughly half the GLA of borage seed oil, brands targeting a stated GLA per serving will need either a larger softgel, more units per day, or a blend — which is exactly why buyers should treat this product and our borage oil as separate specifications rather than substitutable omega-6 oils. Evening primrose retains the larger share of consumer recognition in women's-health and daily-wellness ranges, and its higher linoleic content and lighter sensory profile also suit topical and leave-on cosmetic work. We supply both cold-pressed oil, which retains more of the native minor components and a fuller colour, and refined oil produced to pharmacopoeial expectations for pale colour, low odour and tight acid and peroxide values — the usual choice for clear or lightly tinted softgel shells where fill colour bleed-through matters. Evening primrose is not commercially cultivated at scale in India; seed is contracted from established growing regions including China, Canada, Europe and New Zealand, then pressed, refined and packed in India, with the crop origin declared on each lot's documentation. The oil is vegan and free of all major declarable allergens, though the allergen and dietary status of a finished softgel is determined by the shell, not the fill.
