Specifications

Product typeTwo-mineral compressed tablet supplying elemental magnesium and elemental potassium from food-grade mineral salts; not a botanical preparation
Magnesium source (standard)Trimagnesium dicitrate anhydrous, CAS 3344-18-1, C12H10Mg3O14, minimum 14.5% Mg on the dried basis; E 345 where used as an additive
Magnesium alternativesMagnesium oxide CAS 1309-48-4 at approximately 60% Mg; magnesium bisglycinate CAS 14783-68-7, C4H8MgN2O4, at approximately 14% Mg
Potassium source (standard)Tripotassium citrate monohydrate CAS 6100-05-6; the anhydrous salt CAS 866-84-2 is 38.28% potassium. Potassium chloride CAS 7447-40-7 on request
Typical elemental load100-150 mg elemental magnesium and up to 99 mg elemental potassium per tablet; other ratios built to the buyer's formula
Reference valuesEU NRV 375 mg magnesium, 2000 mg potassium (Reg. (EU) No 1169/2011 Annex XIII); US Daily Value 420 mg magnesium, 4700 mg potassium
Potassium dose ceiling21 CFR 201.306 covers solid oral potassium preparations supplying 100 mg or more per unit; US-bound tablets are built at 99 mg elemental K or below
Tablet format800-1200 mg round or oblong, uncoated or HPMC film-coated, scored on request; disintegration not more than 30 minutes (Ph. Eur. 2.9.1)
ExcipientsMicrocrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate or stearic acid of vegetable origin; hypromellose film coat
AppearanceWhite to off-white uncoated tablet, or tinted film-coated tablet; uncoated grades have the characteristic saline-citrate taste of the salts
Assay and uniformityMagnesium and potassium 90-125% of label claim by ICP-OES or AAS; weight variation and content uniformity to USP dietary supplement practice

Magnesium and potassium are the two intracellular electrolytes most often formulated together, and the entire commercial question is which salt of each you use, because that decides the elemental load, the tablet weight and the mouthfeel. Thovek's standard build pairs trimagnesium dicitrate anhydrous (CAS 3344-18-1, C12H10Mg3O14, minimum 14.5% magnesium on the dried basis) with tripotassium citrate monohydrate (CAS 6100-05-6; the anhydrous salt, CAS 866-84-2, carries 38.28% potassium by mass). Magnesium oxide, CAS 1309-48-4, is far denser in elemental magnesium at roughly 60%, which is why economy tablets are built on it; magnesium bisglycinate, CAS 14783-68-7, C4H8MgN2O4, sits at the other end — kinder on taste, bulkier per milligram of magnesium delivered. Potassium chloride, CAS 7447-40-7, at about 52% potassium, is the low-cost alternative to the citrate. Two sets of numbers govern the label. In the EU, Annex XIII of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 sets the Nutrient Reference Value at 375 mg for magnesium and 2000 mg for potassium; the corresponding US Daily Values are 420 mg magnesium and 4700 mg potassium. Potassium also carries a formulation ceiling that catches new brands out: 21 CFR 201.306 addresses solid oral potassium salt preparations supplying 100 mg or more of potassium per dosage unit, which is why US-bound supplement tablets are conventionally built at 99 mg elemental potassium or less per tablet. We will formulate to whatever percentage of NRV or DV the brief specifies, and we will flag it during costing if the potassium figure will not clear a US launch in that dosage form. Both minerals carry authorised EU Article 13(1) nutrient function claims covering normal muscle function and normal functioning of the nervous system; selecting and wording any claim on the finished pack remains the brand owner's responsibility in its own market. Tablets run 800-1200 mg, round or oblong, uncoated or HPMC film-coated, scored on request, with disintegration inside 30 minutes by Ph. Eur. 2.9.1. Excipients are the standard direct-compression set — microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, silicon dioxide and vegetable-source magnesium stearate or stearic acid. Every input is of mineral or synthetic origin, so the product is vegan and vegetarian with no bovine, porcine or marine material anywhere in the formula, and free of milk, egg, soy, fish, crustacean, gluten, peanut and tree nut. Magnesium salts are hygroscopic and citrates more so than oxides: ship and store sealed, below 25 C and under 60% relative humidity, and do not decant bulk drums in an uncontrolled room.
