L-Tyrosine (CAS 60-18-4, C9H11NO3, molecular weight 181.19) is a conditionally essential aromatic amino acid that the body forms from L-phenylalanine. In normal metabolism it is the biosynthetic starting point for the catecholamines dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine, for the thyroid hormones T3 and T4, for the pigment melanin and for coenzyme Q10 — established nutrient chemistry that is why brands place it in focus and alertness formats. It is also a standard component of the complete amino acid profile used in clinical, enteral and parenteral nutrition. Thovek supplies fermentation-derived material. Bulk L-Tyrosine is now produced by engineered Escherichia coli strains fed on glucose, replacing the older route of extracting tyrosine from animal or plant protein hydrolysates, so the product is non-animal in origin and supports vegan, kosher and halal positioning. Pharmacopoeial grade assays 98.5-101.5% on the dried basis, with specific rotation between -9.8 and -11.2 degrees (50 mg/mL in 1 N hydrochloric acid), loss on drying not more than 0.30% after 3 hours at 105 C, residue on ignition not more than 0.10%, and heavy metals not more than 15 ppm as lead. FCC food grade, AJI grade and feed grade run off the same fermentation stream. The main formulation constraint is solubility. Tyrosine dissolves in water only to roughly 0.45 g/L at 25 C, so it is normally used in capsules, tablets and dry powder blends rather than clear ready-to-drink liquids; where a solution is required it is brought up in dilute acid or alkali, or substituted by a more soluble salt or dipeptide. We mill to the buyer's mesh specification and ship every lot with a batch-specific certificate of analysis, safety data sheet, and allergen, GMO and TSE/BSE declarations. Packaging: 25 kg fibre drums or 25 kg kraft paper bags with food-grade PE inner liner; 20 kg cartons on request.
