L-Arginine is a semi-essential proteinogenic alpha-amino acid, chemically (2S)-2-amino-5-(diaminomethylideneamino)pentanoic acid, CAS 74-79-3, molecular formula C6H14N4O2 and molecular weight 174.20. The guanidino side chain makes it the most basic of the common amino acids, so the free base dissolves readily in water to give a strongly alkaline solution — a practical consideration in beverage and effervescent work, where it is normally paired with an acidulant or specified as the hydrochloride salt instead. Commercial material is produced by submerged fermentation on non-GMO carbohydrate substrates, then crystallised, dried and milled, giving a vegan product of non-animal origin. In metabolism L-arginine is the substrate of nitric oxide synthase and an intermediate of the urea cycle, and it is a standard component of enteral and parenteral amino acid profiles. Formulators use it in pre-workout and intra-workout powders, amino acid blends, stick packs and effervescent formats, tablets and capsules, and as a nitrogen source in cell culture media. Outside nutrition it serves as a pH regulator and conditioning agent in oral care and personal care, and as the starting material for arginine salts such as the hydrochloride, alpha-ketoglutarate and aspartate. Thovek supplies L-Arginine against USP-NF, Ph. Eur./BP, JP and FCC specifications, with assay of 98.5-101.5% on the dried basis, loss on drying not more than 0.5% and sulphated ash not more than 0.1%. Each lot is released with a certificate of analysis covering identification by infrared absorption and specific optical rotation in hydrochloric acid, assay by titration, related amino acids, residual solvents, heavy metals and microbiological limits; ICH Q3D elemental impurity data is available on request. Standard material passes 40 mesh, with 60 mesh, 80 mesh and granular grades available for direct compression and dry-blending. Kosher, Halal, non-GMO and allergen declarations accompany every shipment, and export documentation is prepared for sea or air freight from Indian ports.
