Pyridoxal-5-phosphate, commonly abbreviated P-5-P or PLP, is the phosphorylated coenzyme form of vitamin B6. Thovek supplies the monohydrate, CAS 41468-25-1 (anhydrous form 54-47-7), molecular formula C8H10NO6P·H2O with a molecular weight of 265.16 (247.14 anhydrous), as an off-white to pale yellow crystalline powder assaying not less than 98.0 % by HPLC, with 99.0-101.0 % lots available on an anhydrous basis. Because the molecule is already phosphorylated it is specified and dosed differently from pyridoxine hydrochloride: on a molar basis one gram of the monohydrate corresponds to about 0.64 g of pyridoxine base, and residual free pyridoxine is controlled to 0.01 % maximum in the grades we offer. P-5-P is the coenzyme that enzymes use directly in the transamination, decarboxylation and racemisation of amino acids, and in glycogen phosphorylase activity. That is why brands building premium B-complex, sports nutrition and practitioner-channel products specify it in place of, or alongside, the pyridoxine salt. It is soluble in water, gives a pH of about 2.6-3.0 in dilute aqueous solution and melts at 140-143 °C. The compound is markedly light-sensitive and moderately hygroscopic, so it is handled under subdued light, packed in foil laminate, and is best formulated into opaque capsules, coated or film-coated tablets, and amber-packed liquids rather than clear-bottle formats. Material is released to an in-house HPLC specification covering assay, identification, appearance, pH, water content, residual pyridoxine and elemental impurities against ICH Q3D / USP <232> limits; pharmaceutical-grade lots can be supplied against a buyer-agreed specification with additional related-substance and microbiological testing. Every shipment carries a batch certificate of analysis, MSDS, TSE/BSE and allergen statements, non-GMO declaration, and Halal/Kosher certificates where required, packed for export from India in light-resistant drums.
